I'm currently in my last year of my CS undergraduate program and I have always been pretty interested in mathematics in general. Throughout my program I have always tried picking up higher level mathematics, specifically abstract algebra as that topic interests me the most. However, no matter what approach I try I'm never really able to get past 2-3 chapters/videos on a book/lecture.
I don't know if it's just my terrible attention span that is making me lose focus or not. I do believe the lack of community plays a part in it too, with the mathematics department in my university being incredibly understaffed and there being a total of 1 math major currently. I never really get a chance to converse about these topics or ask help in critiquing my proofs.
I know my problem is less math related and more of a self learning discipline kind of problem but do you have any suggestions? Be it a learning resource or a community or a learning tactic, any suggestion would be very appreciated!
